Waiting on Wednesday (23): The Blood of Olympus

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Book: The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus #5) by Rick Riordan
Publication Date: October 7, 2014
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

This is the final installment from the Heroes of Olympus series and I am trembling just thinking about how it'd all end. Granted, I've yet to read House of Hades but that's only because Rick Riordan kills me with his cliffhangers every freaking time. So I decided to wait until this is out so I can finally read the last two installments back to back. Definitely one of my best ideas in a long while.

So what books are you waiting on?

    1. Tsk. This won't do, Cait. As a passionate member of Book Justice Society, I implore you to choose between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter and I'm gonna read along with you. Deal? Deal. Right.

  2. At least Cait have read Book 1! I haven't! This series is kinda on my 'Maybe' shelf. I did see the movies though O.O I know, I suck more for watching the movie first! I have no excuse 😛

    1. Nooo, Amir. The movies paled in comparison with the series. As much as I love the casting especially when they made considerable changes in the second movie, the books are on another level. Just saying. ;-)

  3. I'm reading the Kane Chronicles now. After that then I'll get on with this series. It does sound really interesting though. Aren't all Rick Riordan covers amazing? I just think they are so purty <3

    1. They are so fancy! I've yet to finish Kane Chronicles but I have the last 2 books with me. Maybe I'd read them all back to back along with the cross-overs. :D

  4. I'm no fan of cliffhangers, but I've heard such fabulous things about this series. I'll probably wait until they're all out and then binge read them in a single weekend or so.

    1. The Heroes of Olympus series is more Roman-centered than Percy Jackson which focused solely on Greek mythology (if I remember correctly). So I'd suggest starting with the Percy Jackson series first and then pushing onward to this one. It's great fun to see all the characters you grew to love on a different series. :DDD

  6. Now that the series is finishing, I can finally pick up the series! Although I should have picked it up a looong time ago seeing as I love the percy jackson series. I absolutely love the cover for this book! Great pick Sarah :)

    1. Oh yay. Finally someone has read Percy Jackson! Haha. I'm starting to think I'm the only magical person in here, Jeann. *sniggers* We can read them together if you want. I need to reread from the very beginning anyway. :D

  7. omg omg omg I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK!!! I freaking love both the PJO series and the HOO series and kaldsfasldfasdf!!! I seriously can't wait to see how things pan out in the end!
And yeah, good move in deciding to read the last two books back to back haha. Although, I think that HoH actually doesn't end in a major cliffhanger, if I can recall correctly...

    1. NARA! Oh yay! Another person in the Riordan's fangirl club. Oh snap. Just when I thought stopping myself from reading HoH was a brilliant move, it would turn out there's no cliffhanger anyway. Figures. *headdesk*

  8. *hangs head in shame* I haven't read anything by Rick Riordan Sarah, can you believe it? I KNOW! I fail at life. And book blogging ;-) To my credit though, I DID see the first Percy Jackson movie, so that's something right? RIGHT? I hope this ending is everything you want it to be!

    1. No no no. I refused to believe it, Jenny. Ummm, yeah? If seeing the movie didn't inspire you to read the series then ummm...gonna have to stop my train of thought there. I love the movies in an UNCONDITIONAL way but you better read the books because I'll cry. *slumps in a heap*

  9. Oh, I BET you're excited! And I wish for it to not disappoint it coz if it does I would be mad at Rick Riordan ;) You shall tell me how it ends!

  10. YES. YES. YES. YES! While I'll confess I don't like this spinoff series quite as much as I love the original Percy Jackson series, I really am excited to see how everything turns out.

  11. Oh no, I can't even read your post in case there's anything in there about the first four books. I really need to start the series, especially seeing the finale is being released soon. I've got a box set of the first three, but I need someone to tell me how incredible book one is and that they'll hurt me if I don't start ASAP.

  12. The wait for last installments is always far worse than it is for all of the other books. I hope you get your grabby hands on The Blood of Olympus sooner rather than later. Luckily, October isn't too far away, but it's still going to feel like forever. LOL Great pick!

  13. Mwahahahaha! Maybe I should have copied your strategy and just waited for BOO to come out before reading House of Hades. But again, I am such an impulsive reader and I immediately read it on the day of its release. OMG, Sarah! I can't wait to see your reaction once you've read HOH because there will be a lot of revelations that're going to rock your world. Lalalla.

Heavens, one more month for BOO to come out. Maybe I should do a quick re-read of HOH. I can't wait to see how Rick will wrap things together. :D

  14. I've yet to read a Rick Riordan... I need to plow through the first book, but I just don't like the writing so much. People tell me it will definitely get better though, so I'll hold on to that. In any case, this series and spin off has gone a long way. Fans must be ecstatic to get this one soon!

  15. Girl I still haven't started this series! Can I still be your friend? *puppy eyes* But I truly hope you'll enjoy it and that the final book in this series will be the best ;)

  16. Oh I didn't realize this series is already approaching its end! Seems like just yesterday that the first Heroes of Olympus book came out... I guess now this means that I have some major catching up to do because I've only read the original Percy Jackson series! I hear you on those cliffhangers though, so it will be good to binge-read this series.

  17. Oh my gosh, I've still never read one of Rick Riordan's books! I've seen the first Percy Jackson movie, but that's it. :) I want to, though! I guess I'll have two entire series to read when I do get there. :) Great pick Sarah!

  18. I read the PJO series and really loved it! I have yet to get my hands on any of the books in this series but I'm definitely planning on it once the series this one comes out so no waiting haha :)
